We are as conflicted as this glorious, bright, sunny winter weather as you almost certainly are.
On the one hand, we don’t not want to make the most of it while it’s here. On the other, we’re concerned about the ongoing causes and wary of the inevitable hangover.
And then, it’s also got us prematurely thinking about our summer wardrobes.
Apparently, Brits buy an average of five new holiday clothing items every time they head off on a new adventure, two thirds of which are never worn again. This means, a staggering 132 million holiday clothes are going unworn every year, according to travel company Contiki.
Even worse, when it comes to shopping for holiday wardrobes just 13% of those surveyed said they would buy clothes for an upcoming trip from sustainable brands no matter the cost. And nearly a third admitted to purchasing cheaper clothing to suit fleeting seasonal trends ahead of a holiday.
THE CLOTHES SWAP
So, the holiday company for 18-35 year olds (we’re relieved to find out we just about still fit this age bracket) has teamed up with sustainable fashion campaign #LoveNotLandfill to organise a summer clothes swap on Tuesday 12 March.
Not only this, there’s also a pretty formidable discussion panel taking place alongside the swap. It features Fashion Revolution founder, Carry Somers; founder of sustainable fashion marketplace Antibad, Agatha Lintott; freelance travel and lifestyle journalist, Anna Hart; and sustainable advocate and podcaster, Venetia Falconer.
They will be giving top tips on how they personally shop before going on holiday, their favourite sustainable brands and why it’s worth investing in better clothing. You’ll also be illuminated about the true lifecycle of a garment, which is truly shocking stuff if you don’t already know!
That’s surely worth digging out those summer clothes you’re never going to wear again for and swapping them for items you just might!
So, if you want one (or two, go with a friend!) of the five tickets we have to giveaway, simply email us saying how many you would like and we’ll get straight back to you! Then all you have to do is start packing a bag of clothes you are willing to say “thank you” and “goodbye” to…
