Because it’s Cool:

How could you not be a fan of Nkuku?

From beautiful, handcrafted furniture made from solid wood to colourful textile and unique gifts – Nkuku is shop and online store you could unashamedly lose hours in.

Founders Ali and Alex Cooke have been building their relationships with artisans throughout the world for the last fourteen years.

This means they are able to offer a wonderful variety of designs created with traditional skills and natural materials.

It also means every product has a great story behind it.

Because it Matters:

Everything on Nkuku is handmade and eco-friendly. Recycled glass and sustainable Mango wood feature heavily.

One of the most fabulous things about the site is the “maker profiles” that feature on each page, allowing you get to know who has made the item you covet.

Nkuku started out as a Fairtrade brand. However,  this limited them to only work with people who were already working to Fairtrade standards. One of their goals is to help create more sustainable jobs so they sacrificed the globally recognised stamp of approval, as they felt it was more important to get those that weren’t working in the best conditions up to certifiable standards.

Their buying team of four regularly makes trips to where the products are made. They work with independent businesses, social projects and co-operatives.

They say: “Trading fairly provides our suppliers and the artisans with an opportunity to build a future. It helps businesses develop and creates sustainable employment.”

Did You Know? Nkuku is the name of a hut in Zambia. It is pronounced (Nuh–ku–ku).
